Description

This photo type non – contact tachometer employs the principle of reflective scanning. A reflector is used here to direct the light from a  transmitter to the photo receiver through photoprobe. The receiver senses the reflected light each time the target passes through the light beam and the interval between the two reflected light is processed to compute the RPM.

Measuring the rotational speed of a spinning object is important for a number of reasons. Contact tachometers work by placing a freely spinning wheel in direct contact with a rotating shaft or disc. The shaft or disc propels the wheel creating pulses that are read by the tachometer and converted into RPM.
